The Vulcan Flying Club is still looking for volunteers to help out at the 25th annual Fly-in Breakfast, which will take place from 8-11 a.m. this Sunday at the airport. "Without the help of volunteers, it's a lot of work," said Val Lucas of the flying club. "It's still a lot of work, even with the volunteers," she added with a laugh. For a fee of $5, attendees can help themselves to pancakes, scrambled eggs, ham, juice and coffee, while watching dozens of aircrafts circle the skies and come in for a landing. The money raised will go toward funding for the Vulcan Flying Club, as well as the Vulcan and District Chamber of Commerce. In years past, pilots have come in from all over the province, and as far away as Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the United States to take part in the unique dining and entertainment experience. "It's fun to see all the different planes and pilots that come in every year," said Lucas's husband, Ron, president of the flying club. Val has been organizing the event for the last 13 years, and says that the club puts the ad out for all members of the Alberta Flying Farmers and International Flying Farmers groups, so as to attract as many different planes and pilots as possible. "We've had them from just about everywhere," she said. Organizers estimate that between 30 and 40 planes will roam the skies and runway while children and adults stuff their faces with delicious breakfast goodies. "Everyone comes out and spends the morning eating, watching planes, having coffee and just sitting around enjoying each other's company," said Val. "It's a really good time." "We had a really good turnout last year," she said. "It went really well." For more information or to volunteer for the breakfast, contact Val at 403-485-6837. |
