As the Town of Vulcan relaunches its arena operations, we ask for your full cooperation and commitment to follow the new facility guidelines of the Alberta Health Services Phase 2 reopening.  Our first priority is the health and safety of our customers, users and employees.  Please review the additional Town of Vulcan Arena Guidelines below.

Physical Distancing:   Maintain 2-meter physical distancing between people, except those who reside in the same household or who belong to an existing cohort.

Contact Tracing: Each group must provide contact information for each coach or team staff to the Town of Vulcan’s Community Services Manager.  User groups will contact the Town Community Services Manager immediately in the event that a person from your group has tested positive for COVID-19 or have been in contact with anyone testing positive with COVID-19. Each team will take attendance for each session booked on the ice.  The contact for each player/skater/coach or team assistant needs to be readily available by your group if requested by AHS or Community  Services Manager

Limit Contact only 50 people: Where sports and activities cannot be modified to maintain distance, groups must limit the number of contacts between different participants.  This is done by playing within sport cohorts of up to 50 people including participants, officials, coaches, and trainers.  Only 50 people will be allowed on the ice at one time.

Pre-screening measures:  Stay home if you are sick or displaying any symptoms of COVID-19.  Follow the prescreen procedures outlined by your organization or Alberta Health Services.

Cleaning and Sanitizing: Additional cleaning and sanitizing measures will be in place to ensure a safe and healthy environment for everyone.  Arena staff will be disinfecting all areas of the arena and common touch points in between users.

Arrival Times:  Players and coaches can enter the facility through the front main doors 15-20 minutes before their booking and must exit the facility 15 minutes after the end of their booking.

Entrance/Exit to the facility: The doors to the facility will remain locked to assist in limiting the number of patrons entering and exiting the facility at one time.  In compliance with AHS guidelines, all users including spectators will Enter the facility through the main doors of the facility. Exiting the building by all users including spectators will be out the south door only along highway 534.

Arrive ready to train or play:  Participants are encouraged to arrive with the required equipment on, as dressing room space will be limited to accommodate physical distancing.  Groups or teams may be provided with more than 1 dressing room to allow for adequate space where possible.  Bring a pre-filled, labelled water bottle.  Bottle fillers will not be available.

Dressing Rooms limited:   Dressing room space will be extremely limited in or to provide greater physical distancing between individuals and groups.  Shower facilities are not available.  Try to minimize contacting high touch point surfaces such as door handles and going in and out of the dressing rooms.  Indoor warm-up space is not available at this time.

Additional support required: User Groups with younger children requiring assistance with skate tying should consider how to manage this within physical distancing guidelines.  Skate tying prior to arrival and the use of skate guards is strongly recommended. We will be asking from each user group to provide a host at the entrance of the facility to screen and give direction to those entering the facility. The host will provide support to maintenance staff in disinfecting door handles in the entry way and exit along with the view area with the provided wipes after group has left the building. This will provide maintenance staff with needed time to disinfect change rooms etc.  No children or adult will be allowed to roam freely in the facility and will be directed to the approved spectator area by host for the duration of the user time slot.

Limited Spectators: Spectators will not have access to the facility until the scheduled booking time and should exit out the specified door of the facility as soon as the booking time slot has ended.  Spectators will not be allowed in the player areas.  Physical distancing should be maintained, and masks are recommended for spectators.  There is a limited spectator space.  Spectator area restricted to 25% of total seating in the mezzanine area only which is a maximum of 15 people as per the Alberta Health Guidelines.   The bleacher area will not be accessible at this time.

All Arena Users:  Sport and recreation organizations are responsible for keeping track of all participants for each activity for the purpose of contact racing in the event of an outbreak.  Please refer to the Alberta Health Services Guidelines for COVID-19 Relaunch Guidance for Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation – Stage 2 for more information:  go to https://www.alberta.ca/biz-connect.aspx

Players/Skaters: Should be prepared to come dressed in as much hockey/skate equipment as possible to reduce the time at the facility before and after on-ice sessions. Players/skaters must not spit, blow their nose freely or release any bodily fluid anywhere in the facility due to an extremely high risk of virus transfer.

Ice Ready: skaters are encouraged to come” ice ready” for their session. This means putting skates on in the parking lot and using skate guards to enter the building.

Specific-Sport Guidelines: Many sport governing bodies have developed, or in the process of developing sport-specific guidelines to provide direction on how their sports’ activities can be modified to comply with Albert Health Services and Government directives regarding physical distancing and avoiding the sharing of common equipment.  Groups are expected to follow the sport governing body’s guidelines with respect to these modifications.  It is also the group’s responsibility, if applicable, to ensure that sanctioned activities are permitted through their association and /or sport governing body.

Following Guidelines: Compliance with the above guidelines is critical in maintaining the health and safety of our customer, users, and employees. Failure to abide by these guidelines may have a devastating effect on our community and others which may result in loss of the privilege of using the Town of Vulcan Arena by your user group(s) until such time that observance to the guidelines is ensured by the offending group(s).

Welcome back:  We look forward to welcoming you, your organization, and its members back to the Town of Vulcan arena within the new guidelines and facility procedures.  Your collaboration and communication is very important as we go through the reopening and relaunch phases of the Arena.  The health and safety of everyone is our priority.  If you have any questions, please let us know.

*Please note the Town of Vulcan will continue to monitor the virus and its impacts to the public health, in partnership with the Government of Alberta and the Government of Canada.  As this situation changes, we will keep you informed.  Information about the Town’s response can be found on the Town of Vulcan website.
