2025 Municipal Election 

For all Councillor positions within the Town of Vulcan, the number of candidates who filed nomination papers is equal to the number of offices available. Consequently, as per Section 34(1) of the Local Authorities Election Act, the Returning Officer has declared those candidates elected by acclamation.

The Town of Vulcan 2025 Municipal Election will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Polling station will be located at the Town Office Council Chambers located at 321 - 2 Street South.

Becoming a candidate in the 2025 Town of Vulcan Municipal Election is an exciting opportunity to serve your community.  This page provides essential information and resources to guide you through the nomination and election process.

2024-2025 Committee Appointments

This Election will fill seven (7) seats;  seven Councillors for a four year term.

Through Policy A-16 – Mayor and Deputy Mayor Appointment Procedure Council shall be resolution appoint the Mayor from among the Councillors at the Inaugural Organizational Meeting following a general municipal election.  The term of office for the appointed Mayor shall be for a period of one (1) year and shall commence on the date of initial appointment at the Annual Organizational meeting and shall run until the date of the following Annual Organizational meeting.

Nomination Day

The Returning Officer or designate will receive nominations of candidates for the local jurisdiction election from January 4, 2025 Monday to Friday during regular business hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., to September 19, 2025, and on Monday, September 22, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. noon. 

Nomination packages are available at the Town Office. You may also contact the Town Office at 403-485-2417 to receive a package by email.  If you wish to pick up a nomination package please contact the Town Office for an appointment.

 

Qualifications for a Candidate 

Candidates should review the Local Authorities Election Act Part 1, Sections 22 and 23 to determine their eligibility for nomination.  It is the candidates responsibility to make sure that they are not in violation of any condition of eligibility.

A person may be nominated as a candidate in the Town of Vulcan's Municipal Election, if on nomination day the candidate is:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • A Canadian citizen
  • A resident of the Town of Vulcan for six (6) consecutive months immediately proceeding Nomination Day  (Nomination Day is 4 weeks before Election day)
  • Not otherwise ineligible or disqualified

You Are Not Eligible to Run If You:

  • Are an employee of the Town of Vulcan (unless you are granted a leave of absence prior to nomination day)
  • Are an auditor for the Town of Vulcan
  • Are more than $50.00 in arrears on your property taxes, or you are more than 90 days in default of any debt to the Town of Vulcan in excess of $500 (if you are not sure about this, please call the Town Office at 403-485-2417 to find out if you have any amounts owing) or
  • Have been convicted of an offence under the Local Authorities Election Act, or the Canada Elections Act within the last 10 years.

There may be other instances that will result in your ineligibility to be nominated as a candidate.  
It is the candidates responsibility to ensure the candidate is not in violation of the conditions of eligibility.  For the inclusive instances, please refer to Sections 22 and 23 of the Local Authorities Election Act.

Voter Eligibility Identification Requirements 

Voter Identification is required by all voters.  Each voter must produce one piece of identification that establishes both the elector's name and current address.  For more information please click this link Voter Eligibility Identification (PDF) requirements.

You must be a Canadian Citizen and have been a resident of Alberta for at least six (6) months immediately preceding Election Day.  Your place of residence must be in the Town of Vulcan on Election Day in order to vote for Councillors.

Candidate Contact Information

The Town of Vulcan often receives requests from the media, election forum organizers, and the general public for the contact information of candidates. Candidates may provide their contact information by submitting the Candidate Information Disclosure Form to the Returning Officer. By signing and submitting this form, the Town of Vulcan will be authorized to share the candidate’s information with the media and public. Information received will be posted on www.townofvulcan.ca

Elector Register

New for 2025 Municipal Elections!! 

All Municipalities are now required to keep a register of electors, which is shared with Elections Alberta for provincial elections.

Check to see if you are on the register:  https://www.voterlink.ab.ca/ 
* Please note - you will be directed to the Provincial Electors Registry.  This is the correct registration form, even though it does not reference your municipality.

If you are not on the register on Election Day, you can still vote in the municipal election.  You will be required to show proof of your physical address, and your name will be added to the register after the election.
